P.O.Box 3030, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Background – Recent developments of the openIMIS Initiative
In the last quarter of 2018 various new implementing partners joined the openIMIS Initiative.
At global level, a consortium of two international consulting companies, Swiss Tropical and Public Health (Swiss TPH) and the Germany based EPOS Health Management, were assigned to support the initiative in conceptualization, capacity development and implementations. Moreover, the so-called Regional Hubs have been newly established. The Regional Hub Asia is hosted by the Asian eHealth Information Network (AeHIN), the Regional Hub Africa hosted by Jembi Health Systems.
At national level, the implementing partners´ network is growing. Specifically in Tanzania, in view of the national roll out of openIMIS two additional implementing partners are getting on board (GIZ Tanzania and Pharmaccess), extending the ongoing support by Swiss TPH (HPSS Tanzania) and GIZ Nepal. The user community (BEPHA Cameroon, PORALG / NHIF Tanzania, HIB Nepal), already operating openIMIS is growing, as well as the number of countries and institutions who are interested to join the global openIMIS community.
Objectives of the workshop
The objective of the Implementers Committee workshop is to create a space for a get-together of the existing and the interested partners of the initiative.
During the first day of the workshop, the participants will get familiar with the mission / vision of the initiative, its history, structure and activities. Jointly we will learn about different stakeholders, country requirements and implementation of openIMIS.
On day two, the Implementers Committee will jointly further define the roles and responsibilities as well as establish a common work plan for 2019.
The participation of (potential) user organizations and implementing partners is of special relevance to obtain insights on the national planning, priorities and requirements. The overall objective of the workshop is to create a mutual understanding of the initiative and align joint work and operations procedures regarding openIMIS.
Program overview of the week
Most participants of the Implementers Committee Workshop will also take part at the Symposium “Health Insurance for the Informal Sector in Tanzania” taking place on February, 12th and 13th in Dar es Salaam. A special add-on of the Symposium is a field trip on the 14th of February to a health facility using openIMIS.
As such, the symposium, field trip and the workshop in Tanzania, the “cradle” of openIMIS, provide an ideal setting and sequence for the community around openIMIS to evolve, strengthen and grow.
