Goal: ”Finding methods and heuristics to use for developing problems and potentials of openIMIS. Getting better understanding of what is included in UI/UX and building Guidelines

Design Guideline

Styleguides provide specific design rules for UI elements across products, while design guidelines offer broader principles for overall design philosophy and aesthetics. Bernhard, Preim., Raimund, Dachselt. (2015)

The content of design guidelines for web applications encompasses various aspects, including usability, accessibility, emotional engagement, and user personality considerations. These guidelines aim to enhance user experience and ensure inclusivity across diverse user groups.

Usability Guidelines

  • Usability recommendations focus on creating intuitive interfaces, derived from studies on web applications and traditional software(Pärsson, 2010).

  • Heuristic evaluations, such as Nielsen’s 10 usability heuristics, are employed to validate these guidelines, ensuring they address common usability issues(Pärsson, 2010).

Accessibility Standards

  • The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 3.0 emphasize inclusivity, particularly for visually impaired users, by introducing principles that enhance user-centric design(Panda & Kaur, 2023).

  • These guidelines are crucial for creating equitable online experiences, especially in educational contexts(Panda & Kaur, 2023).

Emotion-Based Design

  • Design criteria that consider user emotions can significantly impact user interaction, as evidenced by studies linking specific emotions to web interface characteristics(Mori et al., 2014).

  • This approach encourages designers to create emotionally resonant experiences, enhancing user satisfaction(Mori et al., 2014).

Personality-Centric Guidelines

  • Tailoring web applications to different personality types can improve user engagement, as users have distinct expectations regarding interface features(Subaramaniam et al., 2011).

  • The LEONARD model helps identify these personality types, guiding the design of user interfaces that cater to specific user needs(Subaramaniam et al., 2011).
