Session I: A Community-powered Digital Public Good
Within less than a decade the openIMIS Initiative has grown from a health insurance management software into a globally recognized Digital Public Good (DPG), enabling over 24 million people across 13 countries to access health and social protection services. Its success stems from prioritizing an open, inclusive community model involving developers, implementers, and global partners who collaboratively improve and adapt the software. The initiative's federated structure empowers local developers and companies to innovate and build sustainable business models, while strategic partnerships ensure alignment with global standards and interoperability. As it matures, openIMIS is exploring new models to continue to preserve, and grow, the value and uniqueness of contributions from its diverse, community-driven ecosystem.
The session introduced members of the community, their manifold ways of engaging with, and contributing to the community. It provided a chance to learn from them the value they have gained from engaging in the global initiative.
