Break-out Session II.2: From enabling operations to advancing policy: The strategic potential of openIMIS for national health insurance

Session Overview

openIMIS is an open-source software, enabling business processes for social health protection schemes, thereby contributing to their daily operations. While it has been implemented in 14 countries among which 4 national health insurances, its potential for data analytics remains nascent. Furthermore, while its contribution to the attainment of broader policy goals, through enabling SHP coverage extension and effective financial protection, are certain, there is less visibility on how specific solutions brought by openIMIS influence the attainment of such policy goals.

This breakout session is organized by the International Labour Organization and openIMIS, in collaboration with the P4H Network. It aims at starting key reflections on how openIMIS current features can respond to national health insurance needs for attainment of specific policy objectives and monitoring and evaluation thereof, how possible gaps can be filled and its potential be fully realized. In particular, the event will look at how openIMIS can incentivise multisectoral collaborations towards the attainment of policy goals.

The session will be hybrid.

Objectives

This breakout session aims at :

- Identifying ongoing openIMIS solutions and practices for monitoring and evaluation of policy objectives;

- Sharing reflections and examples of openIMIS current contributions to policy goals in countries, including through incentives for intersectoral policy implementation;

- Discussing the potential for openIMIS improvement through solutions proposed, funding modalities and implementation processes.
