2026-03-25 Bhela: Student project on enhancing openIMIS based on an offline mode

As part of openIMIS’ ongoing collaboration with academia, we regularly support student projects that contribute fresh perspectives and innovative solutions to our community. The Bhela Community Call on 25 March, showcases one such project:

In 2025, Marvin Marqua, an IT/digital health project manager and software engineer by training, completed his master’s thesis in Medical Informatics. His research focused on enhancing the openIMIS web application with an offline mode. Through this work, Marvin developed valuable insights into the platform and created an architectural prototype.

During the call, Marvin will:

  • Present an overview of his master’s thesis and the developed prototype.

  • Share key findings on offline mode software architectures and their implications for openIMIS.

  • Lead an open discussion on the potential benefits and challenges of implementing an offline mode in existing installations.

Join us to explore:

  • How offline capabilities could transform openIMIS deployments.

  • The technical and operational opportunities - and hurdles - of offline functionality.
