openIMIS Testing, Knowledge Management & Community Support

Welcome to the central plannification page for the openIMIS Testing, Knowledge Management & Community Support project. This page is for us to keep the community up to date with our activities and to track progress of our activities and consolidate deliverables.

Find here is the presentation of our work plan for the period January to July 2026

How to use this page :

  1. Locate the activity in the page below.

  2. Click on the title to expand or collapse the section.

  3. Each section contains detailed information and deliverables within.

  • We are going to contribute to the documentation of test cases in the openIMIS testlink to include the documentation of new developments that have been released but are not adequately documented.

  • Expansion of test case analysis docs , Incorporating new test cases and updating existing tests during the modular migration (eg. Nepal, Cameroon) is critical to improving the robustness and reliability of openIMIS. Moreover, we plan to prioritise the test cases based on experience provided by real implementors (support level) where they experience fixing issues.

  • In line with the defined openIMIS test cases, we are going to be introducing workflows for various openIMIS processes. This workflow is the improve the understanding of openIMIS users and testers thus making the usage and the User Acceptance Testing of the tool more effective.

  • We are going to plan and coordinate the upcoming testing for the April 2026 Release to ensure that all existing and new functionalities that will be deployed in this release are functionally tested and possibly identified bugs are fixed before the next Release is deployed. We plan to organize this activity in an efficient and effective way to ensure timelines are respected and all functionalities are tested. Activity like having workshop (virtual) one will be effective as it had helped to improve testing during April and October release of 2025

  • In our recent review of documentation available in our openIMIS wiki and from feedback we get from some community members, we understand some of the documentation available on the various openIMIS releases are limited. Within this period as part of our work plan, we are going to be improving on the documentation on some existing and new functionalities of openIMIS in the wiki to ensure these documentations are comprehensive for users of the wiki.

  • For this scope, during the modular migration in Nepal, certain functionalities (e.g., transferring a member between families etc., analysis is being done for other modules as well) emerged as necessary based on practical experience. we plan to put these enhancements to be documented and incorporated into the openIMIS Wiki. It is certain that there will be also contribution from Cameroon experience as well.

  • Our current dataset for testing in the openIMIS demo server does not include all possible scheme scenarios thus making the testing of the tool to be limited as some specific scenarios might not be adequately tested. We plan to work on improving on the openIMIS demon datasets to include various different test scenarios to ensure that the database for testing is up to date to ensure a more complete testing .

  • For this particular work, the testing team needs to work in close coordination & support with the maintenance team to ensure consistency, correctness, and smooth integration of changes.

  • We have the openIMIS user manuals available in the openIMIS wiki which we have worked on improving. We however observe that the user manuals are not always very clear in illustrating the openIMIS processes. We are thus going to work on putting in place process flow charts in the wiki illustrating the various openIMIS processes. This flow chart will go a long way to add as a support tool for openIMIS users and testers in carrying out their activities with openIMIS.

  • For this activity the testing team has already achieved workflows in core modules (insuree, claims, family etc.) and will plan to update it as necessary for other modules, in both french and english

  • We are going to be supporting in the documentation of implementation experiences and specific developments realized for new implementations like Comoros and Senegal

  • Additionally new functionality used in Nepal from SSF+HIB in openIMIS will be shared as experiences like notice management, payments strategy, random sampling, grievance handling, appeal strategy, booking mechanism etc.

  • If provided, the testing team also document the claiming process of new countries (Myanmar) like Zenith TRI , which can contribute in proficient way of handling/reviewing claims

  • We have already put in place a format for regular Toumai community meetings. We plan to continue having these meetings monthly every third Mondays of the month at 12 noon CET. These calls are opened to all openIMIS developers, implementers and aspiring users of the tool who are interested in exchanges and updates on openIMIS in the French language

  • The openIMIS Community already have various different avenues for meetings and working sessions like the Developers calls, implementers calls, Toumai calls, Bhela calls etc. We are considering either benefitting from some of the existing sessions to organize working sessions with the entire community where we will have discussions and document requests coming from the community of features community members will like to see in openIMIS, discuss on recurrent bugs in openIMIS and their possible solutions, discuss on new functionalities available in openIMIS and equally provide Expert response to questions community members might have. If it is not possible to use existing working slots to achieve this objective, we might consider setting up special slots for calls for this purpose

  • We are going to plan at least three webinars between January and July 2026 for the community on selected topics. These webinars will have as main objective to present new and existing interesting functionalities and implementations of openIMIS to the entire community

  • The Testing and Knowledge Creation / Management Team is available to participate and actively support in the various community calls throughout this period

  • The Testing and Knowledge Creation / Management Team has participated in various international forums in 2025 amongst which are HELINA held in Botswana and GDHF held in Kenya. The Team did in person presentations and equally carried out side event workshops. We are looking up to participating in at least one in person event and a possible one virtual event where we can do in person and virtual presentation of openIMIS to targeted audience

  • We have created an openIMIS landing page in French on the wiki. We are going to continually work on keeping it up to date

  • We are going to implement at least two sessions of Bhela-style sessions during our Toumai sessions on knowledge sharing on openIMIS

  • We are going to organize at least one webinar for the openIMIS French speaking community to show case some openIMIS features and workflows and part of our efforts to improve on knowledge transfer on openIMIS

  • After the April 2026 Release is being deployed, we intend to carry out at least one mid term testing to be sure possible buys and issues observed during the April testing session have been fixed

  • We are going to do a review of the present openIMIS terminologies in English and French and work on improving the terminologies for better user comprehension

  • Based on user feedback and requests, we are going to work on improved user focus documentation and workflows for specific openIMIS processes

  • We are going to continually work on updating knowledge material on openIMIS implementation in the various countries in which openIMIS is being implemented. This is to ensure our openIMIS wikik has up to date documentation on various openIMIS implementations at all times

  • We are going to continually work on improving on the various available documentation on openIMIS knowledge sharing and make sure they are easily accessible to every interested persons who need information on openIMIS

  • The Testing, Knowledge Creation and Management Team is available to accompany new country and small community schemes intending to use openIMIS to have a better understanding of openIMIS and its functionalities. This could be done through organizing meetings with new implementations intending to use openIMIS or responding to specific questions they may have on openIMIS and its implementation

  • We have started working on putting in place various workflow processes and flow chart on different menus on openIMIS in both English and French. We intend to continue improving on this task with many different menus

  • Depending on available resources, we might consider putting in place video tutorials for various openIMIS processes
