Getting started

When implementing openIMIS, it is important to look at the bigger picture to see where policy, process, practice, and technology come together. Initial steps of conducting resource planning, workflow review, identifying training/capacity building needs, and overall change management before starting to work on customization, deployment of openIMIS is recommended. These processes will provide a holistic view will help inform organizations on what (policy, process, or technology) changes need to happen at each level of the implementation process and how they impact each other.

While openIMIS functional modules can be used in various combinations to meet the needs of different social protection schemes, some pre-packaged solutions, powered with openIMIS are available to help you get started with specific use cases. Specific steps for implementing each solution are available.

The Health Insurance Solution of openIMIS allows for the management of a variety of health insurance schemes such as formal and informal contributory social health insurance , community based health insurance , or private health insurance schemes.

The openIMIS Global Initiative focuses on developing and maintaining the openIMIS software, building an open-source community, and promoting openIMIS as an open-source option for various types of social protection schemes. The openIMIS Global Initiative facilitates the provision of openIMIS as a software that is free of charge, as well as providing a platform for sharing knowledge related to implementations, software development, and capacity development.
