2024-02-28 Bhela Discussion: Through the eyes of our users

How can we best present to our users what openIMIS has to offer? Which solutions are they (the users) looking for - and how can we communicate to them - as succinctly and clearly as possible - that we have it?

These are some of the questions we are currently working on with two communication specialists. They would be keen to hear your, the implementers', perspective: What are your clients looking for and how do you get them interested in the solutions openIMIS can offer?

Your stories / recommendations

How do you present openIMIS to potential users?
Having done it a few times, what have you learnt about what works and what doesn’t work?

  • identify (pilot) schemes and introduce tool to them - they are searching for tools

  • it will be easier to talk to government authorities once you created reference cases in the country, explain the value of the tool through this reference case = show that it works

  • show casing previous implementations easier to win trust of potential users, can relate to requirements and specify requirements on top of what they are seeing; boosts potential users confidence to adopt openIMIS

  • users always interested in new features, customising to their needs

  • facilitate talks between potential and current users

  • show how openIMIS can solve specific problems / challenges of a potential users = openIMIS as a solution, USP of openIMIS vs. other options; boosts credibility

  • USP e.g. modular architecture that makes customisation easier

  • SOPs work as joint guideline to talk about the scheme at hand and what a user needs

  • learn as much about requirements first to anchor presentation of tool with needs of user

  • need to understand government dynamics (national / country level), challenges and identify actual decision makers → present openIMIS as solution, backed by naming reference cases

  • potential users actually ask for the reference cases in the country or from other countries / similar schemes,

  • ideally address technical staff working at government authorities - best entry to an agency as the understand business needs and technical approach to solve problems; will be able to connect explanations on openIMIS as a solution best

  • invest effort to identify technical staff as mediators / decision makers

Which tools / materials are you using to present openIMIS? and: What material would be helpful to be provided by the Coordination Desk?

  • PPT slide deck - pick from existing stock of slides to cater best to specific / potential user

  • (customised video) demo easy to follow and safes time

  • link to website and other resources online

  • link to demo for potential user to try out themselves

  • prepared video tutorials - with voice over in language of potential user

  • idea: Can we rebuild openIMIS webpage? (use additional channels?) For example https://github.com/ has a nice presentation (you have to be in incognito mode if you are logged in); target audience: software developers
