Health information systems are a driver of many health system functions since they enable the majority of the operations within the health ecosystem. Due to the intricacies of their operations, many nations have had difficulty managing their health financing systems. openIMIS is a flexible, interoperable, open-source platform that has been utilised for the management and administration of health financing and social protection programmes. openIMIS has been effectively implemented in multiple countries across the globe, with over 10 million beneficiaries already recorded. Since 2016, Nepal has used openIMIS to administer its national social insurance programme via the National Health Insurance Board.
